1年前に消息不明のアルゼンチン軍潜水艦、残骸を発見

昨年11月15日に乗組員44人を乗せたまま爆発し、大西洋で消息を絶ったアルゼンチン海軍の潜水艦「サンフアン（ARA San Juan）」について、同国海軍が16日、潜水艦の残骸の位置を特定したと発表した。

同国海軍が発表した文書によれば、捜索活動に携わる米企業オーシャン・インフィニティー（Ocean Infinity）が水深800メートルで「サンフアンであることを確認」した。

ARA San Juan: experts point to error in the 'E19' valve

According to a report, an error in the internal ventilation valve could have caused water to get in and cause a short-circuit in the batteries.

The report is being prepared by submarine experts commissioned by the Ministry, including Navy rear admirals (RE) Adolfo Trama and Alejandro Kenny, and captain (RE) Jorge Bergallo, who is the father of Jorge Ignacio Bergallo, the second commander of San Juan whose life was lost at sea.

The report is set to be presented to the Defence Ministry in the upcoming days, as soon as the minister Oscar Aguad allows it.

Argentine submarine: Government 'lacks means' to raise lost vessel

An anonymous naval officer told the AFP news agency that the vessel could be lifted - at a cost: "Raising the submarine to the surface is not impossible, but it is a very complex operation, and therefore very expensive," the officer said.
