The model name of the pistol is a contraction of "Veterinary Pistol 9 mm".

The suppressor is not of the same design as the Welrod's and is significantly less effective, only reducing the report to in the region of 129 dB with standard FMJ ammunition (about as loud as a high-powered air rifle) as opposed to the older weapon's 73 dB (said to be impossible to identify as a gunshot at over fifteen feet).
