TAIPEI, Formosa, May 26

Nationalist China today be came the first U.S. Ally to receive the needle-nosed Supersonic F-104 Starfighter.
Two were transferred at Kung Kuan Air Base in central Formosa with the promise of "many more to come."
The Starfighter is said to be capable of speed exceeding i j 1,400 miles an hour and to have a range of more than 1,000 miles.
Maj. Gen. Leander L. Doan, commander of the U. S. Military Assistance Advisory Group in Formosa, said in a speech: "This transfer symbolizes the weapons, equipment, logistical support and the training assistance to our free world Allies which is needed to assure the mutual military strength required to defeat Communist aggression.
"The Chinese (Nationalist) Air Force has won for itself an enviable reputation as a superior combat air force in the western Pacific. Even though outnumbered, your air force has proven its superiority in combat. Sincerest best wishes for new and overwhelming victories in the air whenever the Chinese Communists may again demonstrate their aggressive intentions."
Gen. Peng Meng-chi, Chinese Air Force chief replied: "Possession of this sophisticated aircraft will not only augment the defensive strength of our country, but will also give substantial contribution to the security of the free world."
Meanwhile, Radio Peiping today issued what it called its 100th serious warning against intrusion of its air and sea space by the United States.
A broadcast said such actions against Communist China have been going on for 20 months and added: "We must give the U.S. imperialists serious warning the Chinese people are not to be bullied. Every debt they owe will be paid."
Peiping charged the United States openly sent aircraft and warships into Red China's territorial air and seas beginning Sept. 7, 1958.

Nationalist China envoy quits Japan

1972/11/28

TOKYO (AP) - The Nationalist Chinese ambassador to Japan, Peng Meng-chi, flew home to Taipei today, formally ending his government's diplomatic representation in Japan.
The Japanese and Communist Chinese governments established diplomatic relations on Sept. 29.
Atsushi Uyama, Japan's ambassador to the Nationalist government, will return Thursday, officials said.
Peng was seen off by about 300 Chinese and Japanese well-wishers who waved small Nationalist and Japanese flags and shouted the traditional "Banzai! Banzai!" - Japanese for "long life."
Hiroshi Hashimoto, chief of the Foreign Ministry's China section, also was present despite the break in diplomatic relations.
