查戈斯群島位於毛里裘斯東北方向約750公里的印度洋西南海域，毛里裘斯1965年向英國割讓查戈斯群島。
英國翌年把主島迪戈加西亞租給美國建造空軍基地，為此驅逐約2,000名居民。

There is a legend that gave the Gibraltar monkeys much popularity during the Great Siege between the years 1779 to 1783.
At that time, a combined effort between Spain and France was undertaken to siege control of the Rock from the British.
During a surprise attack one evening, the monkeys were disturbed, the result being that the British were alerted and the attack from the French and Spaniards was abolished.
It is from this legend that the saying was given rise, that so long as the monkeys live on the Rock, so too will the British have control.

The USCG believes that the carbon fibre layers of the hull started to break apart during a dive to the Titanic, which took place a year before the disaster - the 80th dive that Titan had made.

But the USCG says the data collected from sensors fitted to Titan shows that the bang was caused by delamination.
